The Value Of Wikipedia Backlinks For An SEO Campaign

one of the best ways to attract regular traffic to your website is to rank highly in all the major search engines. Two of the most effective ways to do that are to make sure that you have researched the best keywords, and to create as many backlinks to your site as possible. Building a search engine optimized website which is keyword rich and full of original content is a great way to start your quest for Google domination, but it’s those backlinks that will help you to attract visitors, and ultimately make money from your website. In order to really increase your rank, your goal should be to create those backlinks at authority sites, and there is perhaps none better than Wikipedia.
Back in the early days of Wikipedia it was relatively easy to place a backlink on there. All you had to do was edit any part of the information on the page and then insert your link. There are now more stringent practices in place, and there are definite measures that you will have to follow in order to get your backlink accepted. The website that you link points to must be very professional looking, have minimal ads showing, and of course be relevant to the subject matter of the Wikipedia page that your backlink appears on. Even if you meet all those requirements, you will still be required to establish an account at Wikipedia, and must follow the rules to the letter or your backlink attempts will be considered spam and removed from the site.
There are those that will dismiss a backlink from Wikipedia as less than valuable, simply because the links are no-follow. That may not be ideal for your SEO purposes, but what is valuable is the authority that the search engines will give to a backlink from Wikipedia. That goes a long way towards building a high level of rank trust, which basically tells Google that if your link passes the high standards in place at Wikipedia, then your website should be considered an authority on the subject, which is one of the key determining factors that Google has in place for ranking your website in their search results.
Having read that, you might very well be determined to rush off to Wikipedia and start blasting your links all over the place, but keep in mind there is a review process on every link, and if you are a newbie to the site, then you might have to sit and wait a while for that link to be approved.
